Facility description

The Weiher has always been one of my favorite places to stay in the vicinity of the Royal Castles. Owned and operated by the Oswald family - Frau Oswald runs a clean, quaint and comfortable house and takes pride in being a good hostess. Parking area available. Very pretty breakfast room with excellent Frühstück provided.

Frau Oswald does not speak much English but she is used to visitors from all over the world. My Frau and I enjoyed sharing wine and cheese on the balcony at night with a great view of the lit-up Neuschwanstein.

A million dollar view on a clear night and even better if there is a slight swirling mist in the air. King Ludwig II was an extraordinary individual with a very creative imagination. He was not 'Mad' - merely eccentric....

Bruyant : absence d'isolation phonique entre la chambre et le couloir, en raison de portes très légères. Literie moyenne. Pas de volet aux fenêtres (seulement des rideaux peu occultants). Repas cher et qualité assez moyenne. Nous ne recommandons vraiment pas. (24.08.2011)

The landlady is a very friendly and humorous woman. The view towards Neuschwanstein castle is unbeatable. The location is quiet and very convenient for all the attractions. Good breakfast. (04.07.2011)

Very easy to find, a short walk from the bus stop. Very convenient location to visit King Ludwig II's castles, staying at this hotel also entitles you to a discount on castle entrance fees. Staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable and we enjoyed breakfast and dinner at the hotel during our stay. (26.05.2011)

We had a wonderful stay at Gastehaus Weiher. The rooms where very clean and we had a wonderful view of Neuswanstein castel from our terrace. The owner was kind and helpful. Despite the fact that she does not speak English, she understands it and communication was not a problem. We would definetly return there. (12.05.2011)

Although the hostess does not speak much English, she was able to communicate with us. She was pretty friendly. The house is adorable, right at the bottom of Neuschwanstein and most rooms have a balcony with a view of the castle. The location is awesome, on a quiet residential street about a 7-10 minute stroll to the very center of Schwan- a very easy and peaceful walk. Our room was very clean and well appointed with a nice and clean bathroom. The bedsheets were a little odd- knit bedsheets that were a little scratchy, but they didn't disturb our restful night's sleep. The bed and pillows were quite comfortable. The breakfast was delicious! I would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Neuschwanstein! (26.04.2011)

The Familie Oswald treated us as family. It was a great location, directly beneath Neuschwanstein castle.In fact you could see the castle from our balcony.What a view! We went to witness the Passion Play in Oberammergau and wanted to spend a few extra days in the area sight seeing. It was by far one of the best parts of our trip. They were so helpful in recommending other sights: the Wies Church, Linderhof Castle, Abbey Ettal, etc. The food was excellent and the accommodations were great. We do intend to go back and we will definitely stay again with the Oswald family. (08.11.2010)

Good location to visit the castle. Room was clean and spacious except that it was not the same as the one we saw on its website. Hotel staff were very nice but we were kind of left unattended when checking in. We had to wait for the responsible person to help. The room was nice with a private bath and a wonderful view of Neuschwanstein. Our hostess didn't speak much English and we don't speak any German, but it worked out fine. She was very kind and welcoming. Plus it was just far enough away from the major tourist area to be quiet, and close enough to walk to the castle ticket station. Lo que debo comentar es que cuando en España reservamos un apartamento siempre se entiende que tiene de alguna forma una kichenette/cocina o algo similar donde poder calentar aunque sea agua. No es lógico que el alojamiento tenga mesa y sillas de comedor pero no tenga ni un plato, vaso, cubierto.... Por otro lado, sería recomendable cambiaran la TV es antiquísima y apenas se puede ver (el tubo del color estaba estropeado y se veia a franjas verde, morado) A su favor: las camas son excelentes, el baño superior y la situación inmejorable. (08.05.2010)

In communication by email with the gastehaus, it was their suggestion that we check in, drop off our luggage, & then go to our scheduled castle tour. We reserved our castle tour based on their suggestion. Prior to leaving our home, I confirmed our reservation by email, giving the time of our reserved tour & that we would be arriving before that time. I received a reply stating that would be fine & that they looked forward to meeting us at that time. On the day of our arrival at the Gastehaus, there was no one there. We waited for almost 2 hours, missing the time of our reserved tour. During this time, another guest with a reservation also arrived. Finally when the innkeeper arrived, she had 2 parties of guests with reservations waiting for her but she offered no apology to either of us for us having had to wait a rather long time. As a matter of fact, she asked if we had a reservation!! It is my impression that there was one person writing the email communications & that person was not communicating with the innkeeper. On a separate matter, the sheets on the bed were very rough & scratchy. This definitely was not the friendly hospitality that we received at our other acommodations in Germany. (02.11.2009)

This is a comment especially for my case: I have reserved a room with private bathroom but our hosts made an error an gave the room to other family. We received a room with private bathroom but outside the room and this was not nice as we were traveling with our 5 year daughter. Superb location with amazing views! Breakfast was lovely and we were told to pack our leftovers for a picnic later in the day! We were also welcomed to leave our luggage behind after checking out so that we didn't have to drag it around the castles all day. House is clean and comfortable-rooms are too! (07.07.2009)

It was a wonderful 5 nights, with an amazing view and the hosts were so friendly and the breakfast every morning was delicious! Our room was always clean and the bed so comfortable. It was always very quiet and easy to go to bed and just during the day. I will definitely stay here again if I have the chance. (10.06.2009)

Alles in Allem ein sehr gutes Hotel. Nur: Wir trafen kurz vor Mitternacht ein und hatten das auch telefonisch angekündigt. Wir wurden zwar noch eingelassen, doch wurde uns ziemlich deutlich zu verstehen gegeben, dass die Ankunft offenbar bereits als reichlich spät empfunden wurde. Einerseits mag man das auf Grund der familiären Verhältnisse und Grösse verstehen, es wurde einem aber nirgends mitgeteilt, dass man vermutlich vor 22 Uhr eintreffen sollte. Wenn man wie wir von einem Hotel aus München kommt, das 24h-Rezeption hatte, erahnte man das nicht gerade. Auch hätte man um diese Uhrzeit nicht mehr duschen sollen, da das Haus scheinbar diesbezüglich ringhörig sei. Uns wurde das aber erst am nächsten Morgen vorgeworfen... Nichtsdestotrotz: Wenn mans weiss, kann mans richtig machen. Aussicht, Zimmer und Frühstück aber hervorragend! (14.05.2009)
